“The fact that operant behavior seems to be “directed toward the future” is misleading. Consider, for example, the case of “looking for something.” In what sense is the ”something” which has not yet been found relevant to the behavior? . . . In general, looking for something consists of emitting responses which in the past have produced “something” as a consequence. (pp. 88-89)
