Science and Human Behavior, Chapter 16: Thinking, Quote 17
“As time passes men react to more and more subtle features of the world about them and in more and more effective ways. The accumulation of behavior is made possible by the growth of a social environment which forces modern man to respond to differences which only very slowly gained control of the behavior of his ancestors.” (p. 255)

Just a note to let you know I enjoy reading and sometimes arguing with the quotes from SHB. After reading the text for Nat Sci 114 as an undergraduate, I worked on the teaching machine project that developed the Holland Skinner program. I am sure I have a copy of the original text among my (of sentimental value only) boxes of books in the garage. Life is quite easy here in SoCal, especially now that I am fully retired, but I miss Cambridge. Hope all is well.
