“Two or more operations may combine in a common effect . . . Behavior is often most vigorous and effective when an emotional predisposition works in the same direction as a contingency of reinforcement. This is implied when we say that “a man’s heart is in his work,” where “heart” refers to emotional variables and “work” to contingencies of reinforcement.” (p. 209)
