“The state of the brain due to reinforcement may resemble the state due to natural selection (the observed behaviors can be indistinguishable), but one is due to a gene, in the sense of being explained by natural selection, while the other is due to reinforcement during the lifetime of the individual, and hence, it must also be due, in part, to the genes responsible for operant conditioning.” (pp. 50-51)
